EXTRICATION - Vehicle Rescue - Awareness

Description:  This course developed by the VAVRS, Office of EMS and Dept. of Fire Programs stresses the skills and latest techniques of vehicle extrication. Emphasis is placed on:
· Orderly and efficient approach to the accident situation
· Safety procedures
· Protective equipment
· Use of tools (hand tools, power tools, hydraulic tools, air bags, etc)
This course contains classroom portions and is appropriate for those wishing basic knowledge of the Vehicle Crash Scene and Safety Systems which could present opportunities to rescuers for injury if precautions are not taken.
*Please note: this program is not normally taught separately from the HTR Vehicle Rescue program as it is an integrated part of that program. However, if a request is made this can be a stand alone four (4) hour classroom presentation.*

Basic Course Prerequisites: 
-Minimum 16 years of age
Instructor Course Prerequisites: 
*THIS IS NOT A STAND ALONE INSTRUCTOR COURE YOU MUST BE CERTFIED AS AN HTR VEHICLE RESCUE INSTRUCTOR TO TEACH THIS PROGRAM.
· MINIMUM of 18 years of age
· MUST hold current certification in HTR Vehicle Rescue
· MUST be certified in basic HTR Vehicle Rescue for a minimum of two (2) years
· MUST have successfully completed the HTR Vehicle Rescue pre-test with a score of 80
· MUST provide own protective gear (see above)
