Description: The School Bus Rescue program was developed by the VAVRS, to give students a well rounded education in the subjects of bus construction, types of buses and stabilization techniques. It will teach students: skills and techniques of bus extrication. Emphasis is placed on:
· Orderly and efficient approach to the accident situation
· Safety procedures
· Protective equipment
· Use of tools utilized in bus environments
· Utilization of resources in the community when School Bus Rescue events occur
· Basic and Advanced Techniques for utilization in Bus Crashes
This course contains both classroom and practical portions.
Course Hours: 16 hours (4 classroom, 12 practical)
Refresher Hours: 16 hours (4 classroom, 12 practical)
Basic Course Prerequisites:
· Minimum 18 years of age
· MUST provide own protective gear which is to include:
· helmet (with or without shield)
· leather type work gloves
· hard sole shoes, or steeled toe boots
· turnout coat (or long sleeves)
· goggles or safety glasses
· Full Turn Out Gear is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED AND ENCOURAGED
· Must have certification in HTR Vehicle Rescue
· Must be able to climb a ladder carrying 75 pounds
Instructor Course Prerequisites:
· MINIMUM of 21 years of age
· MUST hold current certification in School Bus Rescue Instructor for one (1) year
· MUST be certified in HTR Vehicle Rescue Instructor for two (2) years
· MUST have successfully completed the School Bus Rescue pre-test with a score of 80
· MUST provide own protective gear (see above)
